CHESTERFIELD — A bounce back win.
That is what John VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchgirl basketball team was after Friday night during the third-place game of the Marquette Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament against the host Lady Mustangs.
Trailing 26-21 at halftime, Owensville could not overcome a scoreless third quarter before settling for fourth place in the tournament after a 47-32 loss.
Named to the All-Tournament Team at Marquette, junior guard Ali Daniels led the Dutchgirls with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals against the host Lady Mustangs.
Emma Daniels followed with seven points, seven assists and four rebounds.
Anya Binkhoelter chipped in six points to go along with five markers from Audrey Quilacio and three points from Camryn Caldwell.
Jessica Aldenderfer and Trinity Gygi each scored 12 points leading the Lady Mustangs. Aldenderfer also grabbed nine rebounds.
Last Wednesday in semifinal action against Fort Zumwalt West (FZW), Owensville took several good shots that did not fall before falling 35-17 to the Lady Jaguars.
Emma Daniels led the Dutchgirls against FZW with seven points, five steals and three rebounds.
Binkhoelter added five points to go along with three from Caldwell and two out of Ali Daniels.
Makenna Jennings led the Lady Jaguars with nine points.
Winning their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) opener 57-31 Monday night at home over St. Clair’s Lady Bulldogs, VanLeer’s Dutchgirls return to action tonight (Wednesday) on the road at St. Francis Borgia with a 6 p.m., tip time before venturing to Columbia’s Mizzou Arena tomorrow (Thursday) to face Fatima’s Lady Comets in the Norm Stewart Classic with an approximate 4:30 p.m., tip time.
