One month to the day of their last victory on their home floor, Todd Rehmert’s Owensville Dutchmen basketball team looked to avoid a three-game home losing streak Monday night facing Bourbon’s Warhawks in non-conference action.

Using an 8-2 run closing the first half with a 34-22 halftime lead, OHS got 13 third-quarter points from Cason Gray eventually helping them pull away from the visiting Warhawks for a 70-47 victory.

Baskets in the opening 98 seconds of the game from Gray, Brady Smith and Seth Mayberry put the Dutchmen on top 6-0 over Bourbon.

Answered by a Warhawk 6-2 run, Owensville saw their lead cut to 8-6 with 3:35 for the first quarter.

Closing the opening eight minutes on a 7-3 run, OHS led Bourbon 15-9 going into the second quarter.

In the opening three minutes of the second period, it turned into the Daxton Mehrhoff show at OHS.

Scoring Owensville’s first eight points of the quarter, Mehrhoff helped stretch the Dutchmen lead into double digits by a score of 23-11 with 5:03 until halftime.

Behind Aaron Farris, the Warhawks came back scoring six of the next nine points trimming the OHS lead to 23-17 with 3:50 left in the first half.

Moments later off the bench, sophomore Austin Terry delivered an old-fashioned 3-point play pushing the lead back to nine at 26-17 with 3:04 until halftime.

Leading 34-22 at the intermission, the Dutchmen duo of Tyler Heidbrink (5) and Gray (13) took over the game in the third quarter helping Owensville to a 52-34 lead after three quarters of basketball.

Ultimately winning by 23 points, the Dutchmen were led with a team-high 25 points from Gray. He was followed in double figures by Mehrhoff scoring all 11 of his points in the first half.

Trevor Abernathy and Gray each pulled down seven rebounds leading the Dutchmen on the glass.

Farris led the Warhawks and all scorers with an impressive 27 points.

OHS took the JV game 57-17.
