Point Dutchgirls. Set Dutchgirls. Match Dutchgirls.
Those six words could have easily been uttered following the third-place match Saturday during the Owensville 8th Grade Girls Volleyball Tournament held at Owensville High School.
Looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Lady Bearcats, Jamie Ridenhour’s Dutchgirls advanced to bracket play during their day-long tournament defeating Linn, Sullivan and St. James in pool play.
Only losing to eventual tournament runner-up Washington in pool play, the Dutchgirls advanced to bracket play and a semifinal showdown with Union’s Lady Wildcats.
Falling in two sets 25-23 and 25-11 to Union, Owensville dropped to the third-place match against Hermann.
Jumping out to big leads in both sets, Owensville was able to keep the third-place medals in town following a two-set victory over the Lady Bearcats by scores of 25-16 and 25-20.
Service runs by Clara Julius, Rachel Koepke and Addi Scheer helped the Dutchgirls take game one.
Nursing a 20-19 lead in game two, a Brooke Jahnsen kill allowed Koepke to serve the next three points helping Owensville eventually take game two and the match.
In addition to her 10 service points, Koepke led the Dutchgirls with four kills against Hermann.
Kylie Noelke also led the Lady Bearcats with four kills while Erika Schutt served four points to pace Hermann in the third-place match against the Dutchgirls.
