Finish a season with your best time.
That was the goal for former Owensville Dutchgirl track athlete Kiera Finn last month at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on the campus of Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York.
Competing in three events while in the northeastern part of the country, Finn nearly broke the 18-second mark in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
Making the finals with a time of 18.09 in the preliminaries, Finn’s time was good for eighth place overall entering the finals where she was looking for a top-three finish to earn All-American status.
Placing eighth in the finals, Finn ended her freshman season in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 18.23.
Also competing in the 400m hurdles, Finn’s preliminary time of 1:23.23 placed her 14th overall.
Also competing as part of the women’s 4x400m relay, the Mineral Area College (MAC) Lady Cardinal relay team of Alize Litton, Rachel Wilson, Riley Petsch and Finn just missed the finals placing ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 4:35.50.
This was also their best time of the season in the event.
Finn’s fastest time of the season in the women’s 400m hurdles cam back on Saturday, April 22 running a 1:19.92 good for 10th place in the event at the Culver Stockton Wildcat Open track meet held at Ellison-Poulton Stadium on the Culver-Stockton College (C-SC) campus located in the small northeast Missouri town of Canton.
