It’s one thing to amass over 100 wins in four years of high school wrestling.

Racking up over 100 wins during your college wrestling career is something that rarely happens.

For former Owensville Dutchmen grappler Jarrett Jacques, he was able to accomplish both in nine years of high school  and collegiate wrestling.

Racking up 191 wins compared to just one loss in high school, Jacques ended his high school career as one of over 30 wrestlers to win four state championships.

He nearly won all four of his Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Wrestling Championships at four different schools.

His first two state title were won wearing orange and black singlets.

During his freshman season, Jacques was a member of the Kirksville Tiger wrestling program up in northeast Missouri.

His lone loss as a freshman and high school wrestler came by medical forfeit to Monett’s Kedrick Bink during the Harrisonville Holiday Wrestling Tournament back in December of 2014.

Capping his freshman season with a state title at 132 pounds after winning a 6-4 decision over Osage’s Chris Johnson, Jacques and his family made the move south into Gasconade County and Owensville High School becoming a member of the Owensville Dutchmen wrestling program.

His father Jeff Jacques was the principal at Owensville High School during Jarrett’s sophomore year.

Earning First-Team All-FRC (Four Rivers Conference) honors, Jacques added a district championship to his list of accomplishments as a sophomore.

Winning his second district title in as many years, Jacques also punched his second consecutive ticket to Mizzou Arena in Columbia and the 2016 MSHSAA Wrestling Championships.

Finishing his sophomore season as Owensville’s first undefeated state champion, Jacques capped his 53-0 season winning a Class 2 state title at 138 pounds taking a 6-2 decision from Smithville’s Jake Bollinger.

Leaving Owensville halfway through his high school career, Jacques and his family relocated to the Columbia area where he spent the last two years of high school at Father Tolton Regional Catholic High School.

Undefeated as a sophomore, Jacques looked to duplicate the feat as a junior.

Claiming his third straight district title as a member of the Trail Blazer wrestling program, Jacques ended his junior season with an undefeated 45-0 record winning his third state championships via another 6-2 decision over Seneca’s Trey Smith.

With a shot to join an elite group of high school wrestlers, Jacques looked to end his high school wrestling career during his season at Father Tolton as a four-time MSHSAA State Champion.

Nearly reaching 50 wins for the second time in his high school wrestling career, Jacques finished his senior year with an unblemished 49-0 record after winning his fourth state championship in Class 1 at 160 pounds following a win by technical fall (20-4) over Holden’s Andrew Martin.

One of over 30 four-time MSHSAA State Champions in wrestling, Jacques opted to continue his academic and athletic pursuits in Columbia at the University of Missouri.

As a true freshman, Jacques finished with a record of 27-8 including a perfect 9-0 record in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

He also had a 15-5 record during regular season tournaments.

As one of three Mizzou true freshman to qualify for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Wrestling Championships, Jacques went 1-2 in three bouts.

Beginning his collegiate wrestling career with two wins at the Iowa State Harold Nichols Cyclone Open, Jacques went on to win his first collegiate tournament back in November of 2016.

He earned his first MAC Championship in the first season of the conference with a 3-1 victory over Old Dominion’s Larry Early.

Even though his sophomore season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, Jacques ended up with a 25-7 record which included being MAC runner-up at 157 pounds falling to Rider’s Jesse Dellacvecchia.

Had the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Championships taken place, Jacques would have bee the nation’s No 14 seed at 157 pounds.

Nonetheless, Jacques claimed tournament titles during his sophomore season at the Lindenwood Open and the Cougar Clash.

During his COVID junior season, Jacques finished 13-4 which included being an NCAA Tournament qualifier at 157 pounds as the No. 7 seed.

Earning three wins over ranked wrestlers throughout the 2020-21 season, Jacques defeated then No. 13 ranked Jared Franek (North Dakota State) for his first win of that season.

After three years competing in the MAC for wrestling, Mizzou made the move to the Big 12 for Jacques’ regular junior season.

Battling his way back through the back side of the Big 12 Tournament at 157 pounds, Jacques ended up winning the third-place match in a 3-1 overtime decision.

After his junior season concluded, Jacques finished 18-14 in addition to becoming a four-time NCAA Tournament Qualifier and earning Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors.

Needing just 17 wins to reach 100 for his collegiate career, Jacques opened his senior season on a seven-match winning streak.

That helped him become the 29th University of Missouri Tiger wrestler to join the 100-win club following a win over Vinny Zerban (University of Northern Colorado) in the seventh-place match of the Big 12 Tournament.

His grades helped him become a National Wresting Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American and Academic All-Big 12 First-Team selection.

On and off the mats, Jacques racked up quite the list of accomplishments during his five years in a University of Missouri Tiger singlet.

He was a five-time NCAA Tournament Qualifier in addition to being a five-time NWCA Scholar All-American.

Along with being a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, Jacques was also a member of the 2018-19 First-Year Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Honor Roll.

During the 2019-20 COVID-19 shortened season, Jacques was selected as a 2020 NWCA Honorable Mention All-American at 157 pounds.

During his five years in Columbia, Jacques finished 102-40 picking up 11 wins by fall, 15 wins by technical fall and 12 major decisions along the way.
