Erin Sassmann will be the assistant principal for Owensville Middle School for the 2026-27 school year following the resignation of current Assistant Principal Michael Sachs.
The Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education on Jan. 20, in a closed session, unanimously approved a motion to employ Sassmann and accepted the resignation of Sachs, both with a 6-0 vote.
She is currently employed as the high school and middle school principal for Osage County R-2 School District in Linn and has been in that role for the past four years.
Sassmann attended Lindenwood University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in music and a master’s degree in Education Administration. She is contractually scheduled to begin working in the district on July 1, at the start of the new school year.
“Even though I have loved my time in Linn, Owensville is my home and this is my school district,” said Sassmann. “I just want to be back and a part of the Owensville community and the GCR-2 community.”
She has a sophomore and a sixth-grader in the Gasconade County R-2 School District. Sassmann has previously served many roles within the district. Her first teaching role was with the GCR-2 district, as the OMS choir director in 2005. She was also a third-grade teacher and was the elementary music teacher.
Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy said the district is happy to have Sassmann back.
“We are extremely excited to have Erin Sassmann come back to the district,” said Hardy. “She has done some amazing work and we are excited to have her back.”
Sachs is going back to the Union R-2 School District, where he was a seventh-grade social studies teacher, and will serve as assistant principal of Union High School.
