A timeline for the Owensville Middle School (OMS) gymnasium floor remodel was discussed on Jan. 20 with the Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education, which includes an Aug. 1 completion date.
Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy asked Maintenance Director Gary Pohlmann to give the update.
“We are looking at the spring,” Hardy said. “They started ripping it out.”
Pohlmann said he expected to meet with the HVAC people on Jan. 21 and get more information.
“Hopefully, they will start in March,” Pohlmann said. “We can start the demo inside the gymnasium in April, and the floor starts in May, is what we’re shooting for. Hope we have that done by the 3rd of August.”
Hardy updated the board later about building renovations.
“I want to talk about what’s done,” she explained. “The kids are so excited about seeing that. The teachers’ lounge at Gerald Elementary School (GES) is done.”
The completed GES gym will have a community grand opening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on March 6 with a ribbon cutting.
“We’re going to have to find a way to keep everyone out of the gym until we actually get the ribbon cutting done,” Hardy said. “That’s going to be our unveiling to the community and we’re really excited about that.”
“The Owensville High School (OHS) nurses office has been made ADA accessible,” Hardy said.
Board Member Jenni Crosby asked if the updated nurses bathroom at OHS would give those students who are considered “unhoused” access to hygiene resources.
“Yes. Absolutely,” Hardy said. “When we say it’s ADA compliant, they could have put a small ramp on there, but it’s a very small slope. It’s very easily accessible and very user friendly.”
