Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education on April 20 swore in newly elected members Glenn Ely, Jason Crowe and Kaylynne Niederer, before reorganizing.

Officials began by reading the April 7 certified election results, including:

• Crowe received 1,615 votes;

• Ely received 1,584 votes; and

• Niederer received 1,179 votes.

Incumbents Crowe and Ely retained their seats. Niederer accepted the seat of former member Jean Baker, who did not run for re-election.

Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy stepped in as temporary chairperson of the board after candidates were sworn in until a board president could be approved. She called for reorganization of the board and nominations for president.

Crowe nominated Ely for board president. Nominations closed and the recommended action to approve Ely as president was passed with a 6-0 vote.

Ely stepped back in as board president and asked for vice president nominations.

Kari Nolting was nominated for vice president by Jenni Crosby, the action was passed with a 6-0 vote.

Ely recommended Melissa Bauer as board secretary and that Sarah Connor and Megan Silvers be appointed as alternates.

The motion was passed with a 6-0 vote.

Shiela Barnwell was recommended by Ely to be appointed as treasurer and have Melissa Bauer and Megan Silvers be alternates. The motion was passed with a 6-0 vote.

The Ely opened nominations for the Missouri School Board Administration (MSBA) delegate, a school board member appointed by the board to serve as a liaison with MSBA.  Niederer was nominated for the position with Nolting as an alternate, which was approved with a 6-0 vote.

“That is the reorganization. We’ll jump into the action that the board of education adjourns the reorganization,” said Ely.

The action passed with a 6-0 vote.

Board member Keith Glaser was absent.

The next board meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 18, at the Administration building.
