Gerald Elementary School (GES) hosted a Penny Fair on March 6, bringing students, families and staff together for a fun night of games, food, and fundraising.
Principal Brad Royle explained why the event is so special
“The Penny Fair is one of Gerald Elementary’s longest-running traditions and something many families look forward to every year,” Royle said. “The event has been around since I was a student at GES, which tells you just how long this fun night has been bringing our school community together.”
One of the biggest highlights of the evening was a contest where students voted with pennies for a teacher to kiss a goat. The teacher with the most money would have to follow through. Art teacher Ms. Brooke Connor won with $145 and kissed the goat, making everyone laugh.
Students and the community also enjoyed carnival-style games set up around the gym.
“Many kids went from game to game and had a great time,” Royle said.
A fan-favorite of the community was Grandma’s Pie Auction. Families donated homemade pies, and some sold for up to $150 for the privilege of the dessert. Eli Haitt helped run the auction and kept the crowd excited.
In the cafeteria, the GES PTO served food like hot dogs, nachos, cotton candy and soda.
The Penny Fair is not just fun. It also helps raise money for the school. Some of the money even goes toward a scholarship for a former GES student.
Overall, the Penny Fair was a fun and successful event that brought the community together.
