One thing was guaranteed Saturday afternoon during the New Haven JV Boys Basketball Tournament.

It was that a Gasconade County basketball team would leave with third-place hardware as Owensville and Hermann squared off in the first of at least two meetings this season.

Hermann led by two after one quarter (11-9), two quarters (19-17) and three quarters (23-21) only to see the JV Dutchmen edge the Bearcats 9-7 in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 30-30 forcing overtime.

Kohlt Witthaus scored all four points in overtime for the JV Bearcats helping them to a 34-32 victory over Owensville.

Witthaus led Hermann with 15 points followed by 10 markers from Ryker Ash.

Myles Stiers added seven points while Tayven Hopkins rounded out Hermann’s scoring with a second-quarter bucket for two points.

Chase Weirich led the JV Dutchmen and all scorers with a game-high 16 points followed by six points from Jansen Loeb.

Drew Chapman and Bryce Kramme added three points apiece followed by two markers each from Logan Valley and Chris Allen.

Falling 40-33 to Washington in their championship semifinal, Hermann was led by Aiden Eikermann scoring 10 of his 12 points in the second half.

Owensville fell 58-33 to eventual tournament champion Union in their semifinal led by Loeb with nine points followed closely by Weirich and Kramme with seven points apiece.

Allen chipped in five points while Wyatt Lewis scored a fourth-quarter bucket for two points.

During Hermann’s 56-51 first-round win over St. James, Witthaus torched the nets scoring 18 of his game-high 28 points in the second half.

Ash also reached double figures with 12 points against the Tigers.

Kruz Eldringhoff and Eikermann each chipped in six points against St. James.

Turning back Sullivan 45-34 in first-round action, Owensville’s JV Dutchmen were led by Loeb with 13 points followed closely by Weirich with nine points.
