Those were two things high on the priority list for Kalyn Kemp’s Owensville Dutchgirl soccer team last week during their home tournament at Dutchmen Field.

Opening the tournament last Tuesday with a 4-0 loss against Fatima, OHS looked to bounce back against St. James in their second game of the tournament last Thursday.

Behind two first-half goals from senior Kylie Kitchen, Owensville was able to snap their six-game losing streak following a 5-0 victory over the Lady Tigers.

Just under three minutes into the match, Kitchen scored her first goal of the game giving the Dutchgirls a 1-0 lead at the 37:04 mark of the first half.

Nearly 10 minutes later, Lily Reed doubled Owensville’s lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the game at the 27:18 mark of the opening half.

Seconds beyond the midway point of the first half, Kitchen scored her second goal of the game pushing the lead for the orange and black to 3-0 going into halftime.

Owensville’s lead remained at 3-0 throughout the majority of the second half until another orange and black team member found the back of the net.

Junior Emily Krause shot one past the St. James goalkeeper with 15:08 for the match pushing Owensville’s lead to 4-0.

With time ticking down underneath a minute for the match, the Dutchgirls decided that they were not done scoring goals.

Kitchen completed a hat trick scoring her third goal of the game with 45.4 seconds remaining giving Owensville their final margin of victory at 5-0.

Concluding their portion of the tournament Friday night against Sullivan, Kemp’s Dutchgirls looked to keep themselves in the hunt for a championship on their home turf.

Giving up an early goal three minutes into the match, Owensville trailed 2-0 at halftime and 3-0 on a goal with 37:47 for the match.

Reed dashed Sullivan’s bid for a shutout with a goal at the 1:16 mark of the match before the Dutchgirls dropped a 3-1 decision to the eventual Owensville Girls Soccer Tournament champion Lady Eagles.
