Martin, Linders earn All-FRC wrestling nods

Missing the 2019 portion of the recently completed high school wrestling season did not stop a pair of Owensville Dutchmen wrestlers from earning recent postseason recognition.

Following voting among Four Rivers Conference (FRC) wrestling coaches, senior Cody Linders and junior Dakota Martin were named to the All-FRC Wrestling Team in their respective weight classes.

“I’m proud of these two guys for working hard even though they were only able to wrestling half the season,” Dutchmen head wrestling coach Rod Barndollar said.

Missing the first half of the season due to injury, Linders came on strong during the 2020 portion of his final season in a Dutchmen wrestling singlet.

Winning conference matches against Union’s Bradley Scott and Pacific’s Jackson Roloff, Linders was voted to the All-FRC Wrestling Second Team at 182 pounds.

Sullivan’s Evan Shetley (whom Linders lost to twice) was the First-Team selection after winning the school’s first individual state championship in wrestling in Class 2 at 182 pounds.

Of Linders’ nine losses, two were to Shetley along with a Boonville Pirate who he faced in the Owensville and MSHSAA Class 2, District 2 Wrestling Tournaments.

Linders also had losses to Class 2 state qualifiers at 182 pounds in Osage’s Rudy Escobar, Moberly’s Tristan Morris, Southern Boone’s Dane Donigian and Kirksville’s Tristan Gillespie.

Breaking into the varsity line up during the Owensville Tournament, Martin had a nine-match winning streak at one point during his junior season.

On his way to winning the 195-pound ‘B’ pool title on his home mat, Martin pinned Borgia’s Thaddeus Isgrigg, Missouri Military Academy’s Daniel Knight, Blair Oaks’ DeVonte Sanders and Dexter’s Shawn Robards.

One of Martin’s two losses on the season at the Marshfield Duals was to Class 3 195-pound state qualifier Daylon Kanengeiter of the host Blue Jays.

Kanengeiter went on to place sixth in the state in Class 3 at 195 pounds during the 2020 MSHSAA Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena in Columbia from Feb. 20-22.
