Moritz Roofing has been selected to replace the roof of the Owensville Public Works Department’s main shop and office building following approval by the Board of Aldermen Monday.
Public Works Director Derek Gruenloh received approval to place the project up for bid at the Feb. 17 Board of Aldermen meeting with a bid advertisement being placed March 25 and submissions due April 15.
Gruenloh sought three options for the project: shingles as option one, a metal roof as option two and fascia, soffit and guttering as a third option listed.
In the bid specifications, Gruenloh shared that in option one, the city was requesting bids on 30-year shingles with new 30-pound black paper, installation of five 14-inch turbines and replacement of all flashing around vent pipes.
For option two, the city requested 29-gauge, 40-year paint warranty, new rib panel metal roofing with proper installation of vent caps and snow guards as well as flashing for vent pipes.
Option three consisted of replacement of all fascia, soffit and guttering around the entire building and installation of lumber where needed.
Included in the work is tearing off and hauling away old material, installing lumber where needed or replacing lumber deemed to be damaged as well as fascia boards covered with aluminum where needed, contents of the building remaining unexposed to inclement weather during construction and a clean worksite once complete.
Moritz Roofing placed the low bid of $17,875 for option one, $24,050 for option two — consisting of $20,675 for the main building and $3,375 for the office building — and no bid for option three.
Cornerstone Construction Solutions bid option one at $20,500, option two at $31,350 and option three at $9,050.
The motion to approve awarding the contract to Moritz Roofing was made by Ward 2 Alderman Denise Bohl, seconded by Ward 1 Alderman Dan Breeden and passed with all in favor.
