OHS homecoming spoiled by Sullivan’s Eagles

Another homecoming win.

That is what Dustin Howard’s Owensville Dutchmen football team was after Friday night hosting Sullivan’s Eagles at Dutchmen Field during Owensville High School’s ‘Protect the Mill’ themed homecoming.

Falling behind 7-0 in the opening minutes of the game, Dutchmen senior quarterback Blake Elliott answered with a 57-yard touchdown run at the 8:45 mark of the opening quarter.

After Johannes Berg’s extra point tied it at 7-7, Owensville saw Sullivan score 21 unanswered points through the rest of their 28-7 homecoming loss to the Eagles.

Able to move the ball throughout the night, Owensville simply could not put the ball in the end zone.

On Sullivan’s next drive after Elliott’s game-tying touchdown, the Eagles converted a pair of fourth downs with the first one seeing a fake punt ran by running back Franky Erxleben turn into a fresh set of downs.

Several plays later on fourth-and-three at the Dutchmen 32, Erxleben turned that fourth-down play into Sullivan’s second touchdown of the game.

Two Sullivan touchdown passes from Robert York II to Dominic Ransom and Seth Valley accounted for the remainder of the scoring between the Dutchmen and Eagles.

Now sitting at 4-4 on the season, Howard’s Dutchmen will look to get back over the .500 mark with a week-nine victory this Friday night on the home turf against St. Clair.

No official statistics were available from Friday night’s game prior to press time.
