Homecoming wins.

That was on the collective minds of Ryan Flanagan’s Owensville Dutchgirls and Cullen VanLeer’s Dutchmen during a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) varsity basketball doubleheader Friday night against St. James.

Carrying a 38-31 lead into the fourth quarter, Flanagan’s Dutchgirls picked the wrong time to go cold on offense.

Held to four points over the final eight minutes, St. James put 22 on the board handing the host Dutchgirls a 53-42 loss.

Camryn Caldwell led the Dutchgirls with a team-high 15 points followed closely in double figures by Audrey Quilacio who scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half.

Emily Recker paced St. James with a game-high 17 points.

Looking to pick up their Dutchgirl counterparts, VanLeer’s Dutchmen took their turn on the hardwood after Kylie Kitchen and Erick Lottmann were crowned winter homecoming queen and king.

Nursing a 41-38 lead after three quarters, Owensville saw seven different Dutchmen combine to score 22 points in the fourth quarter of their 63-47 victory over the visiting Tigers from Phelps County.

Senior Bryce Payne led three Dutchmen in double figures finishing with a double double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Layne Evans added 12 points and three steals followed by Will Lauth with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Tanner Meyer just missed a double double finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.

Charlie Whelan added six points to go along with five each from Noah Caldwell and Chase Weirich.

Austin Luecke rounded out the Dutchmen scoring with two points.

OHS and St. James will meet again next week at districts.
