OHS sweeps team titles at Nix Relays

A bigger trophy case or rotation of older trophies might be in order before the end of the 2023 high school track season.

That is because Matt Candrl’s Owensville High School (OHS) track teams both claimed team titles last Wednesday during the Russell C. Nix Relays track meet at Washington High School.

OHS’ Dutchgirls (92) edged Washington (90) atop their team standings while the Dutchmen (83) also topped the host Blue Jays (69.5) and 11 other scoring teams.

Sprinting to 10 points and a first-place time of 51.93 in the girls 4x100-meter relay was the Dutchgirl foursome of Saylor Richardson, McKenzy Echols, Cameron Nowack and Emma Daniels.

In the throwers 4x100m relay which was not scored, the Dutchgirl squad of Payton Boyd, April Jahnsen, Elizabeth Adams and Josie Gerlemann placed third in 1:01.31.

Taking second in the girls 4x200m relay with a time of 1:51.10 was the OHS team of Ella Gehlert, Emma-lee Wehmeyer, Richardson and Emma Daniels.

Running to a third-place time of 4:28.58 in the girls 4x400m relay was the Dutchgirl quartet of Brynn Wright, Alison Daniels, Echols and Ella Gehlert.

Placing third in the girls 4x800m relay with a time of 10:51.59 was the Dutchgirl foursome of Ilene Limberg, Wright, Hannah Gehlert and Abbie Gibson.

Finishing second in the girls 4x1600m relay was the Dutchgirl squad of Hannah Gehlert, Peyton Weinland, Limberg and Gibson in a time of 25:15.55.

In the 800m sprint medley, Owensville’s team of Ali Daniels, Nowack, Richardson and Echols placed third in 2:01.80.

Also taking third in the 1600m sprint medley was the Dutchgirl quartet of Emma Daniels, Wright, Richardson and Limberg in a time of 4:36.43.

Placing seventh in the girls distance medley relay was the team of Lauren Kandlbinder, Ashley Reed, Jenna Breedlove and Weinland in 16:19.71.

Teaming up for the Dutchgirls to place third in the 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay was Ella Gehlert, Rachel Koepke, Halle Engelbrecht and Wehmeyer in 1:19.32.

Ella Gehlert and Halle Engelbrecht cleared 1.41m in the high jump to tie for fourth place.

Jenna Vandegriffe cleared 2.74m to win the girls pole vault while Ruvia Nowack (2nd, 2.59m) and Payton Harness (12th, 1.83m) helped Owensville win the event.

Emma Daniels (2nd, 5.08m), Cameron Nowack (3rd, 5.01m) and Harness (27th, 3.89m) helped the Dutchgirls win the girls long jump.

Ali Daniels placed ninth in the girls triple jump with a mark of 9.33m.

Gerlemann placed 11th in the girls shot put with a throw of 9.27m while Layna Rademacher led the Dutchgirls in the girls discus with a 23rd-place throw of 21.40m.

Owensville’s Dutchmen started the meet with an 11th-place time of 50.30 in the boys 4x100m relay by the team of Ricardo Marquez, Keontrae Gates, Luis Delong and Derrick Marquez.

Taking 10th in the boys 4x100m throwers relay was the squad of Jaiden Mason, William Fields, Eli Graham and Hayden Shoemaker.

Winning the boys 4x400m relay in 3:28.04 was the Dutchmen foursome of Bryce Payne, Gabe Soest, Charlie Whelan and Tanner Meyer.

Also winning the 4x800m relay in 8:52.49 was the Dutchmen quartet of Felix Guerrero, Layne Evans, Lucas Morgan and Soest.

Taking fourth in the 4x1600m relay in a time of 21:52.05 was the Dutchmen team of Noah Holtmeyer, Kyle Bollman, Morgan and Guerrero.

Placing second in the boys 1600m sprint medley relay was the team of Meyer, Payne, Soest and Whelan in a time of 3:51.05.

Guerrero, Evans, Holtmeyer and Morgan teamed up to place fourth in the boys distance medley relay in a time of 12:13.26.

Hurdling to a second-place time of 1:11.78 in the boys 110m shuttle hurdle relay were Ethan Harris, Connor Fisher, Umberto Bertesi and Payne.

Blake Elliott and Soest tied for second in the boys high jump clearing 1.71m.

Aries Nicholas and Derrick Marquez tied for fifth in the boys pole vault with a clearing height of 3.66m.

Whelan led the Dutchmen in the long jump with a fourth-place leap of 6.29m.

Evans rounded out the top 10 of the boys triple jump with a leap of 11.72m.

Shoemaker paced the Dutchmen in the boys shot put with a ninth-place throw of 11.68m.

Mason (14th, 10.82m) and Graham (15ht, 10.64m) also scored team points for the Dutchmen.

Shoemaker (2nd, 39.70m) and Graham (9th, 33.39m) posted top-10 throws for the Dutchmen in the boys discus.

Elliott led the Dutchmen in the boys javelin with a 23rd-place throw of 33.54m.

Competing last night (Tuesday) at the Hermann Invitational inside Hermann High School’s Bearcat Memorial Stadium, Candrl’s Dutchmen and Dutchgirl tracksters will return to action tomorrow (Thursday) in a quad meet at New Haven before returning to Shamrock land on Monday, May 1 for the annual Four Rivers Conference (FRC) track meet.
