Coaching at either Ste. Genevieve or Owensville for nearly two decades, Owensville High School assistant football coach and high school math teacher Ryan Okenfuss will assume a new role at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year.
Approved by a 3-2 vote during a special meeting of the Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education last Wednesday night,, Okenfuss will become the new R-2 Activities Director replacing Dale Long who will become Southern Boone’s new activities director this fall.
Board members Glenn Ely, Russ Farrell and Joyce Lowes cast yes votes while Debbie Landolt and Molly Steinbeck cast no votes.
“I’m excited to dive right into the position and help every student who wants to be involved in an activity find their place,” Okenfuss said.
A 1996 graduate of Ste. Genevieve High School, Okenfuss went on to play college football at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., before returning to his alma mater to teach math and coach freshman football at Ste. Genevieve during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 school years.
Moving from Dragon country to Owensville during the summer of 2004, Okenfuss has taught various levels of high school math and served as an assistant football coach.
“Owensville has been my home for 15 years,” Okenfuss said. “In that time, I have worked with many excellent teachers and administrators. I have also had many fine young men and women walk through my classroom door.”
Continuing traditions will also be a goal for Okenfuss as AD.
“I look forward to continuing the great traditions that have been built here and continuing to support our students and athletes as they strive for success in the classroom and on the playing fields,” Okenfuss said.
