OMS Dutchgirl hoops squads sweep Sullivan

Opening their season last Tuesday at Owensville Elementary School (OES), Terra Heidle’s Owensville seventh-grade Dutchgirls got the honors of starting the season-opening doubleheader against Sullivan’s Lady Eagles.

Racing out to a 16-4 halftime lead, the Dutchgirls doubled their first-half point total in the second half going on to a 32-11 victory over the visiting Lady Eagles.

Lainey Moss scored four of her game-high 10 points in the first quarter.

Madison Slinkard had a bucket in each quarter giving her eight points for the seventh-grade Dutchgirls.

Cameron Slinkard added six points followed by four markers from Kerrigan Griffin.

Riley Dare and Cameron Ryerson chipped in two points each rounding out the seventh-grade Dutchgirl scoring against Sullivan.

Klare Harbour led the Lady Eagles with a team-high four points.

Going for the doubleheader sweep last Tuesday night, Ryan Flanagan’s eighth-grade Dutchgirls took their turn on the court against Sullivan’s Lady Eagles.

Opening the game on a 6-0 run, OMS went into halftime with a 19-6 lead before going on to a 40-17 victory completing the doubleheader sweep at OES.

Ending the first quarter with a 12-2 lead, Owensville was paced by Jenna Breedlove with eight points in the first six minutes.

Edging Sullivan 7-4 to close the first half, Ali Gregory helped the Dutchgirls with three second-quarter points.

Gregory led the OMS offense with four of their six third-quarter points keeping them in front by a score of 25-13 going into the final six minutes at the OES gymnasium.

Scoring eight consecutive points over a span of 2:10, Rachel Koepke helped the Dutchgirls outscore Sullivan 15-4 in the fourth quarter of their 40-17 victory.

Breedlove and Koepke each netted a game-high 12 points to lead Owensville and all scorers.

Koepke added a game-high 12 rebounds in addition to three steals and two blocked shots.

Gregory followed with seven points and a game-high four assists for the Dutchgirls.

Hannah Gehlert added four points, 10 rebounds and a game-high five steals. Clara Julius added three points to go along with two points from Cailin Floyd.

Lily Barker added four steals in spite of not getting in the scoring column.

OMS will return to action on Monday, Oct. 4 hosting Cuba’s Lady Wildcats at 5:30 p.m., at the OES gym.
