OMS Dutchmen track captures seven events, team title at St. James

That is what Owensville Middle School (OMS) track and field athletes had on their minds Monday afternoon during the St. James Middle School Invitational.

Scoring team points in every event, OMS’ Dutchmen racked up 185 points more than doubling Newburg’s second-place total of 79 points.

Other schools finishing behind the Dutchmen and Wolves included St. James (75.83), Rolla (64), Bland (59.33), Steelville (50), Vienna (39.83), Cuba (36), Crocker (18), Bourbon (8), Viburnum (3) and Iberia (3).

Starting on the track, the OMS Dutchmen 4x800-meter relay team of Zach Holtmeyer, Colton Echols, Braden Perkins and Chris Reyes picked up eight team points for their second-place time of 10:11.93 behind Bland’s winning time of 10:04.93.

Charlie Katsov led three Dutchmen in the top eight of the 100m hurdles with a second-place time of 17.54. Also scoring team points for Owensville were Liam Rasmussen (5th, 20.11) and Bryce Kramme (21.43).

Cael Walker sprinted to a second-place team of 13.04 in the 100m dash while Liam Lawrence added a team point for Owensville with an eighth-place time of 13.69.

Taking fourth in the boys 4x200m relay was the Dutchmen foursome of Keigan Glaser, Brady Watson, Cody Lenauer and Rasmussen in a time of 1:54.56.

Holtmeyer added to his winning leg of the 4x800m relay with a first-place time of 5:25.70 in the 1600m run.

Perkins (3rd, 5:49.67) and Granite Miles (4th, 5:51.91) also scored team points for OMS in the boys mile.

Sprinting to gold in the boys 4x100m relay with a time of 50.94 was the Dutchmen quartet of Brenner Thompson, Walker, Watson and Lenauer.

Chase Crosby led three Dutchmen in the top six of the boys 400m dash with a winning time of 58.28.

Broden Kelley (5th, 1:03.41) and Glaser (6th, 1:04.50) also scored team points for Owensville.

Already with a win in the mile, Holtmeyer collected another gold medal winning the 800m run in a time of 2:26.41 in a race where .56 seconds separated first from third place.

Echols also added three team points with a sixth-place time of 2:35.64 in the 800.

Just missing gold in the 100m dash, Walker came back to win the 200m dash in 26.77.

Rasmussen (5th, 27.74) and Lawrence (6th, 28.09) also scored team points for the Dutchmen.

Closing out the meet on the track, the Dutchmen 4x400m relay team of Crosby, Glaser, Kelley and Lenauer posted a first-place time of 4:03.40.

Lenauer also won the boys high jump clearing 1.58m with Glaser and Watson clearing 1.53m giving them second and fourth place respectively.

Kien Bayless added team points in the boys shot put for OMS with a fifth-place throw of 10.28m.

Watson (2nd, 5.17m) and Thompson (5th, 4.95m) scored team points in the boys long jump for the orange and black.

Wyatt Lewis added two team points for Owensville with a seventh-place leap of 9.23m in the boys triple jump.

Walker (4th, 31.47m) and Zayden Garver (8th, 27.43m) added to OMS’ point total in the boys discus.

Ryan Evans cleared 2.45m to place second in the boys pole vault for Owensville while Mason McDaniel (5th, 2.30m) and Miguel Marquez (6th, 2.00m) also scored team points.

OMS’ Dutchgirls nearly made it a sweep of the team titles at St. James finishing with 89 team points behind Steelville’s 104 points.

Winning the girls 4x200m relay for the Dutchgirls in 2:05.26 was the quartet of Payton Busenhart, Lily Sample, Gracie Brown and Avery Goodman.

Rylee Dare also threw her way to gold with a first-place mark of 23.46m in the girls discus.

Sprinting to second place in 56.45 in the girls 4x100m relay was the Dutchgirl team of Alyvia Wilson, Makenzi Carpenter, Sample and Goodman.
