BELLE — Summertime sports consist of more than baseball and softball.

For Owensville’s Audrey and Edan Jarrett, they partake in a different kind of sport involving dirt.

Competing as part of the Fair Cross series, the Jarretts recently competed in round two of five at the 75th Belle Fair back on Friday, June 30.

During heat races to determine gate selections for the main event, Edan won his 50cc race among four through six-year-olds finishing ahead of Belle’s Callea Douglas (2nd) and Lonedell’s Tyson Hawkins (3rd).

Edan’s sister Audrey competed in the 50cc division for seven and eight-year-olds.

She placed second in her heat race to Bennett Barlow.

During the main races, Edan took the checkered flag in the 50cc division.

Audrey settled for second place behind Barlow in the main race of their division.

Numerous other area riders competed among the 19 different race classes contested in Belle.

Belle’s Tanner Devine was not able to finish the 250 Novice main race after placing seventh in the heat race.

In the 65cc Junior 7-9 age division, the Belle trio of Maddox Devine, William Locklin and Oliver Douglas placed first, second and third in both the heat and main races.

Callea Douglas (Belle) placed second in the 50cc beginner class while Locklin also took fourth in the Pit Bike Kids 13-and-under race.

In the 250 Beginner race, Belle’s William Stroup placed eighth in the main race while fellow Belle resident Gabe Williams took 10th in the heat race but was unable to run in the main event due to injury.

Tanner Devine placed fourth in the Big Bike Open and third in the 250 Open divisions.

Oliver Douglas and Maddox Devine played flip flop in the 65cc Open division.

Douglas won the heat race ahead of Devine before Devine came back to win the main event.

Belle’s Logan Schroeder placed second in the Plus 25 Trophy race before Maddox Devine took second in the 85cc Junior 7-11 age division.

Taking seventh in the 85cc Senior 12-15 division, Belle’s Nolie Finnegan won the girls 12-and-under 65-85cc division with fellow Belle resident Ellie Gray placing fourth after going down hitting a rut on the track.

Schroeder ended the night of racing placing third in the 450 Beginner class.

Fair Cross series racing will continue later this month of Monday, July 31 as part of the opening night of the Cole County Fair in Jefferson City.

Other Fair Cross series stops include Thursday, Aug. 3 at the Phelps County Fair in Rolla and on Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.
