The Gerald-Rosebud Fire Department (GRFD) responded to a first alarm fire Sunday afternoon in the 7700 block of State Route H.
Lt. James Birmingham with the Gerald Police Department was the first to arrive on scene. He entered the building and used a fire extinguisher to knock down the bulk of the fire, according to a GRFD spokesperson. His quick response and actions helped stop the fire from spreading any further.
When the GRFD arrived they were able to contain the remainder of the fire and dealt with the heat and smoldering. They stated that the limited ventilation in the building and Birmingham’s quick action reduced damage to the building and its contents.
The damage was classified as moderate to one-half of the building. It is believed the fire origin was electrical in nature.
Gerald Area Ambulance District, Beaufort-Leslie, Owensville and Sullivan fire protection districts provided automatic mutual aid to the structure fire.
