Soccer Dutchgirls shutout Fatima in season opener

Score first and score often.

Those are usually two goals for virtually any high school girls soccer team.

For Kalyn Kemp’s Owensville Dutchgirls, both of those goals were checked off within the first seven minutes of the match.

Thanks to three more goals prior to the 27:00 mark of the first half, Owensville went into halftime with a 4-0 lead before tacking on one more goal in the second half of their season-opening 5-0 shutout of Fatima’s Lady Comets.

“It’s always nice to open your season with a win,” Kemp said. “We came out aggressive on offense in the first half and it paid off to the tune of four goals in 13 minutes.”

Sophomore Anya Binkhoelter was the first Dutchgirl to find the back of the net at the 33:13 mark of the first half on an assist from freshman Audrey Quilacio.

Leading 1-0, it did not take long for the Dutchgirls to double their lead.

Mallory Eberlin became the second different orange and black soccer player to score a goal on an assist from last year’s leading goal scorer Landry Watson.

Owensville now had a 2-0 lead over Fatima with 29:55 until halftime.

Barely a minute went by before Quilacio went top shelf for her first high school soccer goal giving the Dutchgirls a 3-0 lead with 28:34 until halftime.

Keeping the offensive pressure up, Watson netted her 50th career goal at the 27:11 mark of the first half for a 4-0 Dutchgirl advantage that wound up being the halftime score.

Nearly 10 minutes into the second half, Watson scored her second goal of the game giving Owensville a 5-0 lead with 30:46 left in the match.

Stopping all five shots sent her way, Paige Loyd opened her senior season with a shutout in goal.

Monday night in their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) opener at Pacific, the Dutchgirls found themselves on the opposite end of the shutout spectrum.

Falling 8-0 in a match called early in the second half due to the mercy rule, the Dutchgirl saw their record evened to 1-1 on the young season.

Loyd made 11 saves in goal while Leah Reed also stopped three shots.
