HERMANN — Leave northern Gasconade County with hardware.
That was the goal last Thursday night for Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball team in the consolation championship match of the Hermann Invitational Volleyball Tournament against New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks.
Unable to overcome a slew of unforced errors and New Haven’s middle blockers, OHS dropped the match in two sets 25-11 and 25-15.
Early in game one, an Ayla Schmanke kill tied things up at 2-2 before an Aubri Meyer kill for New Haven gave the Lady Shamrocks a 3-2 lead and the momentum.
Katie Holtmeyer served the next six points putting New Haven in front 9-2.
A McKenzy Echols kill ended Holtmeyer’s service run.
Two kills from Addi Menz and two additional Schmanke kills were not enough for the Dutchgirls before dropping game one 25-11.
Down 7-3 in game two, another Menz kill sent Makensy Pigg behind the serving line.
Serving the next two points, Pigg cut the Dutchgirl deficit to 7-6 against New Haven.
Unable to overcome numerous attack errors throughout the remainder of game two, Owensville dropped the second set and the match 25-11 and 25-15.
Echols led the Dutchgirls against New Haven with five kills followed by four from Menz.
Mya Vandegriffe and Madi Lewis each led Owensville with a block apiece against New Haven.
McKenna Edwards paced the Dutchgirls with a match-high 12 digs followed closely with nine from Schmanke.
Ally Gooch and Pigg each dished out six assists to lead OHS.
In pool play last Tuesday at Hermann, Owensville closed the night with a sweep of the St. Louis Panthers by scores of 25-21 and 25-22 snapping a nine-match losing streak.
Echols led the orange and black with seven kills followed by five each from Menz and Vandegriffe.
Edwards served up a team-high two aces to go along with one each from Liz Adams, Gooch and Vandegriffe.
Edwards (19) and Pigg (11) reached double digits in the dig department for the Dutchgirls against the Panthers.
Gooch also recorded a team-high 14 assists for Owensville.
Swept 25-15 and 25-11 by Washington in their second match of pool play, Echols again led OHS with seven kills to go along with two aces from Edwards.
Vandegriffe recorded two blocks while Edwards posted a team-high 16 digs for Owensville.
Pigg and Gooch dished out five assists apiece for OHS against the Lady Blue Jays.
Opening pool play last Tuesday against the host Lady Bearcats, Owensville dropped both sets to Hermann 25-16 and 25-15.
Gooch, Pigg, Lewis and Vandegriffe each recorded two kills while Hermann’s Sydney Schulte posted a match-high 10 kills.
Adams served the lone Dutchgirl ace against Hermann while Schulte led the Lady Bearcats with two aces.
Menz had the lone Dutchgirl block while Ashlyn Hughes led Hermann with two blocks.
Edwards posted a match-high 10 digs for the Dutchgirls while Hermann’s trio of Breckyn Koeller, Kennedie Witthaus, and Kealie Lane each recorded eight digs.
Gooch led the Dutchgirls with five assists while Koeller dished out a match-high 24 assists for the Lady Bearcats.
