Nearly sweeping New Haven on the road last Tuesday night, Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball teams looked to end the regular season on a winning note.

Hosting St. James’ Lady Tigers Thursday night at Owensville High School, it was senior night and the final regular-season match for Dutchgirl players Ayla Schmanke, McKenzy Echols, Ally Gooch, Makensy Pigg and McKenna Edwards.

Fellow senior Morgan Hinson was also managing her final high school home volleyball match.

Beginning with the junior-varsity match, Owensville swept the visiting Lady Tigers in two sets by scores of 25-6 and 25-12.

After all six seniors were recognized by their coaches and presented with gifts, the Dutchgirl varsity squad made it a memorable senior night with a three-set sweep of St. James by scores of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-13.

Pigg and Echols led the Dutchgirls with eight kills apiece followed by five kills from Schmanke.

Mya Vandegriffe, Madi Lewis, Addi Menz and Gooch all recorded three kills each.

Schmanke also served up a match-high six aces followed by four aces from Gooch.

Menz and Schmanke each recorded two blocks apiece protecting the net for the orange and black.

Edwards had the biggest shovel Thursday night leading the Dutchgirls with 11 digs followed closely by Pigg with nine digs.

Gooch (15) and Pigg (11) both reached double digits in the assist department against St. James.

Last Tuesday on the road at New Haven, the varsity match decided whether it was the Dutchgirls or Lady Shamrocks who would win the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) volleyball tripleheader along Highway 100.

Owensville took the freshman match in two sets by scores of 25-13 and 27-25 before New Haven claimed the JV match in two sets 25-22 and 25-20.

Splitting the first two sets of varsity action, both teams decided to split the next two before Owensville won the fifth set and the match by scores of 17-25, 25-21, 25-18, 21-25 and 15-12.

Vandegriffe led the Dutchgirls with 11 kills against New Haven followed by 10 apiece from Schmanke, Echols and Menz.

Gooch served a match-high three aces while Menz recorded a team-high four blocks for Owensville.

Edwards delivered 33 digs while Liz Adams also reached double digits in the dig department with 10.

Gooch (26) and Pigg (13) once again each reached double digits in assists for the Dutchgirls.

Hosting Blair Oaks last Monday night kicking off the final week of the regular season, Owensville found out why the Lady Falcons are one of the better teams in volleyball in Missouri.

Blair Oaks took all three matches winning the freshman match 25-12 and 25-23 in addition to the JV match in two sets 25-21 and 25-14.

Looking to salvage one of the three matches, Owensville also fell in the varsity match to Blair Oaks in three sets 25-18, 25-6 and 25-22.

Echols led the Dutchgirls against the Lady Falcons with eight kills while Camryn Caldwell, Pigg and Edwards each recorded two aces.

Lewis recorded a team-high two blocks while Adams led the orange and black with nine digs.
