Windmill Wonderland, new holiday musical tradition for students, community members, Saturday at OHS

A brand-new holiday tradition is about to begin.

The community is invited on Saturday afternoon to join Gasconade County R-2 band students and staff for the first Windmill Wonderland, a festive musical celebration featuring over 100 musicians of all ages and experience levels.

This exciting event will fill the Owensville High School gym with joyful sounds and holiday spirit, and members of the band program want you there to experience it.

While admissions to participate in the event are closed, the community is still invited to attend and enjoy the music.

This event is organized by MJ Orf and Megan Orf, the band instructors at OHS, who are excited to see students and community members making music together.

“It is really cool to have the community participating with the students. About 40 to 50 community members are joining the students, and I like seeing us come together,” MJ Orf said. He added, “The participants range widely in age, from the youngest at 8 years old to the oldest at 90.”

OHS staff member Zach Summers also shared his excitement about the event, saying, “I am excited because it is bridging the gap between student and adult activities in the community, and I get to participate side-by-side with my students.”

On Saturday, Dec. 20, at 4 p.m., the OHS gym will transform into a winter musical wonderland as performers present a delightful selection of holiday tunes, featuring songs like “Carol of the Bells,” “Up on the Housetop,” “Jingle Bones” (featuring the trombone section), and “Dance of the Reed Flutes.”

Musicians will spend the afternoon rehearsing from 2 to 3:30 and preparing a wide variety of pieces, ensuring an uplifting and memorable performance for all at 4.

The performance will be free and open to the public, so bring your family and friends.

After the performance, the community will be invited to stay for a warm and cozy treat. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served to all performers and audience members, making it the perfect opportunity to gather, mingle, and celebrate the season together.
