Working hands, lasting legacy — ‘Handiwork is the soul’s expression’

The newest exhibit of the Gasconade County Historical Society Museum, “Working Hands, Lasting Legacy,” will feature the unique handiwork of Gasconade County residents.

Embroidery, hooked rugs, needlepoint, birdhouses, crocheted and tatted work, whirligigs, woodcarving, children’s furniture, handmade dolls and toys, and many other amazing examples of the “soul’s expression” will be exhibited throughout 2026 at the museum on McFadden Acvenue. The museum is seeking your handiwork to display, including children’s work. These items will be considered temporary loans until the end of the exhibit in December of 2026.

Contact Linda Baehr at 314-560-1442 if you have something to offer.  Exhibit organizers hope to have these items by the end of February in order to have the exhibit ready for the display’s opening in March of 2026.

The Gasconade County Historical Society Museum is located at 105 West McFadden in downtown Owensville. Hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment by calling Linda Baehr. Admission is free but donations are gratefully accept.
