With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our dear brother, Alyn Ardel Ackmann (“Big Al”, “Al”, “Ollie”), 62, Florence, Ore., formerly of Rosebud, passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at his home.

He was born Sept. 13, 1963, to Ardel and Mildred Ackmann (now deceased), in Washington.

He graduated from Gasconade Co. R-II High School in Owensville and Linn Technical College (H-VAC).

Alyn was a shining light - a kind soul with a heart of gold covered in flannel.

He was embraced by and embraced Ardel’s second wife, Doris Griffin (now deceased) and her family.

Alyn loved to play scrabble and dominoes. He was a cut-up, often a step or two behind or ahead in conversation, fearless and loyal to all who crossed his path. Alyn was a sweet and caring son, brother, uncle, and friend.

His talent for service, being a helper, love of drawing and color, and his dedication to the family farm, his work at Jahabow and his beloved St. Paul’s United Church of Christ were truly inspiring.

Alyn was preceded in death by brothers, Randy and Devon.

He is survived by sisters, Norma Wood and husband Greg of Florence, Ore., Denise Buck and husband Geoff of Monterey, Calif., Glenda Lopez and husband Robert of Powell, Ohio and Kathy Schroeder of St. Charles; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Alyn and his goofy spirit will live on in our hearts forever.

A celebration of his life for family and friends will take place at 11 a.m., Oct. 28, at St. Paul’s UCC in Gerald.

Memorial contributions suggested to St.Paul’s United Church of Christ, 512 Main Street, Gerald, MO 63037.
