Dutchgirl volleyball ends regular season with road sweep of New Haven

OWENSVILLE — Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball teams looked to end their regular season on a winning note last Thursday night on the road against New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks.

Leading two sets to one, Owensville saw New Haven take game four 25-20 to force a deciding fifth set from Shamrock land.

Ridenhour’s Dutchgirls took the fifth set and the match by scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-6 to snap a four-match losing streak dating back to their loss at Hermann.

Leading three Dutchgirls in double-digit kills, Lilly Sample recorded 17 kills followed closely by Joleen Braun with 12 kills and Mya Vandegriffe with 10 kills.

Rachel Koepke nearly made it four in double digits finishing with eight kills.

Jenna Hoffman served up a team-leading three aces followed closely by Ava Schulte with two aces.

Reece Hampton, Brailie Crosby and Clara Brune each also had an ace at New Haven for the orange and black.

Vandegriffe paced the Dutchgirls at New Haven with four blocks while Hoffman led four Dutchgirls in double digits in digs with 25.

Clara Julius added 23 digs followed by 14 from Sample and 11 digs from Carly Copeland.

Clarice Krupp nearly made it a quintet of double-digit diggers with nine.

In the assist department, Copeland dished out a team-leading 20 assists followed by Hampton with 17 dimes.

Owensville also won the junior varsity match in two sets over New Haven 25-16 and 25-8 in addition to the freshman match in two sets 25-14 and 25-15.

Last Tuesday at Sullivan, Owensville’s freshman Dutchgirls prevented a three-match sweep defeating the Lady Eagles in two sets 28-26 and 25-18.

OHS fell in JV action 25-13 and 25-10 while also dropping the varsity match in three sets at Sullivan 25-12, 25-20 and 26-24.

Braun and Krupp led the Dutchgirls at Sullivan with seven kills apiece while Hoffman recorded a team-high three aces.

Vandegriffe (2) and Riley Grube (1) accounted for all three Dutchgirl blocks at Sullivan.

Julius (14) and Sample (13) accounted for nearly half of Owensville’s 60 digs against the Lady Eagles.

Last Monday in senior-night volleyball action against Blair Oaks, Emily McKinney’s JV Dutchgirls denied a Lady Falcon sweep winning their match in three sets 16-25, 25-23 and 25-21.

Courtney Hinson’s freshman Dutchgirls fell 25-17 and 25-13 against Blair Oaks while the varsity Dutchgirls dropped their match in four sets 25-22, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-22.

Sample led Owensville with 10 kills against Blair Oaks followed closely by Koekpe with nine kills.

Schulte and Crosby led Owensville with two aces apiece against the Lady Falcons.

Vandegriffe had seven total blocks to go along with 20 digs from Sample and 14 digs out of Julius.

Hampton paced OHS with 14 assists against the Lady Falcons.

Owensville opened first-round action last night (Tuesday) in the MSHSAA Class 3, District 9 Volleyball Tournament agaisnt St. James’ Lady Tigers at Cuba High School.
