Hermann softball defends Dick Ochsner Ball Park

Hosting St. James’ Lady Tigers and Mark Twain’s Lady Tigers over the weekend on Saturday, Chris Leibach’s Hermann Lady Bearcats looked to defend Dick Ochsner Ball Park and earn some hardware at the same time.

Posting a 25-7 victory in four innings over St. James to open the tournament Saturday morning, Hermann then matched up with Mark Twain for the championship of the three-team tournament.

Tied at 1-1 after three innings, Hermann took a 3-1 lead after four frames when Taylor Carver singled and scored before Alivia Witthaus walked and scored on a wild pitch.

Putting up six runs on eight hits and a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning, Hermann went on to avenge an extra-inning loss to Mark Twain earlier in the season with a 9-2 victory Saturday afternoon.

Carver baked up a complete-game victory allowing two unearned runs on three hits to go with no walks and 13 strikeouts.

Delilah Nobel led the blue and white with three hits, two runs scored and a RBI while the Lady Bearcat quartet of Molly Scheer, Penny Cramer, Harper Priess and Carver each had two hits and two runs scored.

Scheer drove in a team-high two runs while Witthaus drew a team-best two walks against Mark Twain.

In their 25-7 victory over St. James to open the tournament, Delilah Nobel walked four times to go with a hit, a RBI and five runs scored.

Coraline Nobel had three hits and a team-high four RBIs for Hermann against St. James while Witthaus also had three hits, three RBIs and a two runs scored.

Carver added two hits, two RBIs, ,three walks and five runs scored.

Kimber Hale chipped in two hits, two RBIs, a walk and three runs scored.

Charlee Englert also drew two walks to go with a hit and a RBI.

Taylor Grotewiel also scored three runs as a courtesy runner.

Prior to the Hermann Tournament, the Lady Bearcats faced Cuba, South Callaway and St. Pius X (Festus) in regular-season action outscoring them 44-2 in three wins.

During Hermann’s 20-1 senior-night victory over Cuba last Monday night, Delilah Nobel had two triples, three runs scored and a team-leading six RBIs against their Highway 19 rivals to the south.

Carver also had three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs for big blue.

Witthaus equaled Carver in the RBI department with four while also recording three hits in three at bats and scoring two runs.

Coraline Nobel earned the win against Cuba pitching all three innings allowing a run on one hit and one walk to go with five strikeouts.

Venturing into Mokane last Tuesday, Hermann scored a 12-0 shutout over South Callaway’s Lady Bulldogs behind three-hit efforts from Hale and the Nobel sisters.

Delilah Nobel and Carver also drove in a team-best three RBIs for the Lady Bearcats.

Carver earned a complete-game shutout allowing no runs on five hits and a walk to go with 12 strikeouts.

Opening the October portion of their schedule on the road against St. Pius X’s (Festus) Lady Lancers, Hermann broke open a 2-1 game after three innings with a six-run top of the fourth helping them to a 12-1 victory in six innings.

Carver had three hits, three runs scored and five RBIs finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

Delilah Nobel also had a multi-hit game for Hermann with three while the Lady Bearcat quartet of Harper Priess, Cramer, Englert and Grotewiel each had two hits.

Coraline Nobel earned the complete-game win allowing a run on five hits and two walks while striking out 11 Lady Lancers.
