Jeffrey Straatmann 1984-2025

Posted

Jeffrey Allen Straatmann, 41, Leslie, was called home to our Lord Monday, Nov. 3, 2025.

He was born June 6, 1984.

Jeff never knew a stranger. From an early age he would strike up a conversation with anyone. He was happy-go-lucky, always smiling, and took things in stride as a youngster. Life, as it tends to eventually do, made him cynical.

He loved and was very passionate about spending time with his boys. Jeff was a fierce advocate for his son, Gavin, who is nonverbal autistic. He loved taking both of his sons camping, side-by-side riding or just playing Xbox and card games with Cameron.

Jeff shared his love of music with both of his boys--instrumental as well as lyrical music. Football was always a passion. He may not have had the most talent, but he definitely had the most spirit.

Jeff was preceded in death by twin brother, James; maternal grandparents, Andy and Dorothy Portell; and paternal grandfather, James Straatmann.

He is survived by sons, Gavin and Cameron Straatmann, both of the home; parents, Jeff and Mary (nee’ Portell) Straatmann of Leslie; sister, Jillian Van Leer and husband Kevin of Washington; brother, Joe Straatmann and wife Laura of St. Louis; paternal grandmother, Bette Crider and  husband Mike of Union; nephews, Aidan, Owen, Adeon and Orion; nieces, Gwen and Nova; special friends, Amy Staggs, Jason Close and Tim and Katrina Henson; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Rest in peace, son, and know that your boys are well taken care of and your legacy will live on.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov.  8, at Oltmann Funeral Home in Union, with Rev. Jacob Sipes officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph Neier Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Straatmann family.

Arrangements entrusted to Oltmann Funeral Home in Union.
