Doubling up Pacific’s Lady Indians 10-5 over the first four innings, Chris Leibach’s Hermann Lady Bearcat softball team saw their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) foes score seven unanswered run leaving them facing a 12-10 deficit entering the bottom of the seventh inning at Dick Ochsner Ball Field last Thursday.

Down to their last strike and staring at the possibility extra innings, Alivia Witthaus hit a fly ball into center field which was dropped allowing courtesy runner Charlee Englert to score the game-winning run in Hermann’s 13-12 victory over the visiting Lady Indians.

Hermann tied the game early at 2-2 when Kimber Hale tripled home Delilah Nobel before Taylor Carver tripled in Hale during the bottom of the first inning.

Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning, Hermann played four runs on four hits highlighted by an Allison Brown two-RBI double giving the Lady Bearcats a 6-4 lead through three innings.

Adding four more runs to their total in the bottom of the fourth, Witthaus cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double before scoring herself on a wild pitch giving Hermann their aforementioned 10-5 lead after four innings.

Seeing Pacific plate seven unanswered runs over the next three innings, Hermann began the bottom of the seventh inning with a leadoff walk from Harper Preiss.

Delilah Nobel singled and scored after Preiss crossed the plate on a Hale RBI sacrifice fly.

Nobel then scored on a Carver RBI double tying the game at 12-12 with one out.

Coraline Nobel extended the inning to Witthaus with a two-out single before the Lady Bearcats held on for another notch in the FRC win column.

Carver earned the complete-game win for Hermann allowing 11 runs (seven earned) on eight hits and four walks to go with nine strikeouts.

To go along with her pitching, Carver also finished a home run shy of the cycle at the plate.

Of Hermann’s 19 hits, Delilah Nobel, Molly Scheer and Carver each had three to pace the blue and white.

Coraline Nobel, Hale, Witthaus and Brown also had multi-hit games for the Lady Bearcats with two against Pacific.

Hermann will host their annual softball tournament this Saturday facing St. James at 9 a.m., and Mark Twain at 1 p.m.
