Last Tuesday night at Hermann High School (HHS), Tess Schannuth’s Hermann Lady Bearcat volleyball team welcomed Owensville’s Dutchgirls for Four Rivers Conference (FRC) volleyball action which also turned out to be senior night.
Locked up in a tight match, Hermann managed to hold off a game Owensville squad taking the varsity match in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18.
Hermann also won the freshman match in three sets by scores of 25-13, 15-25 and 15-9 before Owensville swept the JV match from Hermann in two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-18.
One of six seniors recognized before the varsity match, Ashlyn Hughes posted a team-high 10 kills for the Lady Bearcats while fellow senior Jillian Fredrick nearly joined Hughes in double-digits finishing with nine kills.
Hannah Epple and Kalli Landolt also added six kills each.
Hughes also served up a match-high four aces for Hermann while senior Jaelee Kahler recorded a team-leading three blocks.
Senior Kealie Lane paced the Lady Bearcats with a team-high 12 digs while freshman Brynlee Ash posted eight digs.
Senior Jana Limberopolous and Landolt each added four digs in addition to senior Erika Schutt recording three digs of her own.
Kahler dished out a match-high 16 assists while Ash also reached double digits with 14 assists.
Closing last week out on Thursday at Sullivan, Hermann fell in four sets during varsity action 24-26, 25-11, 25-21 and 25-17.
Statistics from that match were not available at press time.
Hermann’s JV Lady Bearcats also fell in two sets 25-11 and 25-17 at Sullivan while their freshman counterparts also dropped their match in two sets to Sullivan 25-13 and 25-22.
Hosting Union last night (Tuesday), Hermann will close their regular season with road matches tomorrow (Thursday) at St. James and on Monday, Oct. 20 in Washington against St. Francis Borgia before hosting the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, District 6 Volleyball Tournament starting on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Hermann will await the winner of the Belle-Bourbon first-round match on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
