Last Thursday on the final night of the 70th Hermann Invitational Volleyball Tournament, Tess Schannuth’s Hermann Lady Bearcats looked to end the week on a winning note in the consolation championship match against Owensville’s Dutchgirls.
Tied at 16-16 in the decisive third set, service runs from Chloe Brune and Kalli Landolt helped Hermann hold off their Gasconade County rivals to the south by scores of 25-20, 24-26 and 25-17.
“We didn’t play our best volleyball tonight and we’re fortunate to get out with a win against a determined Owensville squad,” Schannuth said.
Adding to her late service run, Landolt served a team-leading six aces followed by three from Brynlee Ash and one each from Ashlyn Hughes and Brune.
Hermann High School fall homecoming queen Jillian Fredrick tallied nine kills to lead the Lady Bearcats against Owensville followed closely with eight kills from Hughes and six apiece out of Hannah Epple and Landolt.
Jaelee Kahler dished out a team-leading 17 assists for Hermann followed closely with 15 dimes from Ash.
Kealie Lane led the Lady Bearcats with 13 digs.
Last Tuesday night in pool play, Hermann opened up against the St. Louis Panthers dropping game one 25-17 before coming back to take game two 28-26 splitting the match at a set apiece.
Hughes served up two aces followed by one apiece from Jana Limberopolous and Ash.
Fredrick led Hermann with seven kills against the Panthers to go along with five each out of Hughes and Landolt.
Ash paced the Lady Bearcats with nine assists in addition to six assists from Fredrick.
Adding to her 13 digs against Owensville, Lane had eight digs against the Panthers.
Sweeping New Haven 25-17 and 25-20, Lane served up two aces while also leading Hermann with 11 digs against the Lady Shamrocks.
Landolt had nine kills out of nine attempts while Fredrick and Hughes each chipped in five kills.
Kahler dished out a team-leading 14 assists followed in double digits by Ash with 11 assists against New Haven.
Closing out pool play, Hermann dropped both sets against Pacific by identical scores of 25-22.
Ash, Fredrick and Lane each served an ace against the Lady Indians.
Adding to her ace, Fredrick posted a team-high nine kills while Ash dished out a team-best 11 assists just ahead of Kahler’s 10 dimes.
On the road at Washington Monday night and hosting Owensville last night (Tuesday) for senior night, Hermann will cap a busy week of volleyball with another Four Rivers Conference (FRC) road test tomorrow (Thursday) at Sullivan before competing this Saturday at the Lebanon Tournament along Interstate 44.
