Three things have been certain over the last decade in Hermann.

Death, taxes and Hermann Lady Bearcat volleyball winning district championships.

Monday night was no exception inside Hermann High School (HHS) when Tess Schannuth’s Lady Bearcats took on Linn’s Lady Wildcats in the championship match of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, District 6 Tournament championship match.

Taking the first set 25-13, Hermann had to overcome stretches of unforced errors against their Highway 100 rivals to the west.

Able to withstand several Lady Wildcat runs during the second and third sets, Hermann emerged out of the match with their 10th straight district championship plaque following a three-set victory over Linn 25-14, 25-23 and 25-23.

Brynlee Ash led the Lady Bearcats with three aces followed closely with two aces apiece from Kalli Landolt, Kealie Lane and Jillian Fredrick.

Ashlyn Hughes also had an ace towards the end of the third set.

Hannah Epple paced Hermann with two solo blocks while Jaelee Kahler and Landolt each also had a block.

Lane also led Hermann with 13 digs to go along with seven digs from Chloe Brune and six apiece from Ash and Hughes.

In the district semifinals last Thursday against Bourbon, Hermann also won that match in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-5.

Hughes led the Lady Bearcats with 10 kills followed by six from Fredrick and five out of Landolt.

Adding to her five kills, Landolt also served up a match-high five aces against Bourbon.

Hughes chipped in four aces to go along with three apiece from Fredrick and Ash.

Jana Limberopolous and Brune also served up two aces each.

Lane led Hermann with nine digs against Bourbon to go along with five digs out of Ash.

Adding three digs apiece were Erika Schutt, Brune and Limberopolous.

In addition to two digs from Hughes, Tenley McFadden and Landolt contributed a dig for Hermann.

Kahler dished out a match-high 16 assists for Hermann against Bourbon while Ash also had eight assists.

Now two wins away from their 10th consecutive appearance in the MSHSAA Volleyball Championships, Hermann continues on their road to St. Joseph tomorrow (Thursday) night in one of eight MSHSAA Class 2 Sectional volleyball matches on the road in St. Charles at Duchesne High School with a 6:30 p.m., start time.

A sectional victory would ensure them hosting their quarterfinal match Saturday afternoon at Hermann High School.
