OMS Cross Country ends season with state title

If results from last weekend’s Missouri Middle School Cross Country Championships are any indication, Owensville High School (OHS) head cross country coach Matt Candrl will have plenty of talent at his disposal for years to come.

Earning numerous pieces of team hardware throughout the season, Owensville Middle School’s (OMS) trophy case got even more crowded after racing action ended at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland.

OMS’ Dutchmen were first on the course and placed second as a team in the Class 3 Boys Division with 73 points behind Houston’s first-place total of 47 points.

Adding to the hardware haul was OMS’ Dutchgirls capturing a state championship with 68 team points beating out Lamar (81) and Summit Christian Academy (86).

Four of Owensville’s first five Dutchgirls earned ‘unofficial’ All-State honors led by Bella Daniels’ eighth-place time of 14:21.82.

Kennedy Reams rounded out the top 10 for the Dutchgirls with a 10th-place time of 14:42.71.

Additional All-State Dutchgirls with top-25 finishes included Adreahna Leach (14th, 14:58.75) and Alexis Christensen (18th, 15:16.64).

Other OMS Dutchgirls helping the orange and black to a state title were Jolie Vandegriffe (28th, 15:40.17), Alexandra Leach (38th, 16:12.55) and Ella Niederer (60th, 17:38.03).

“In the five year history of this state meet, our girls team had never had a podium top four finish,” OMS head cross country coach Tyler Ahring said. “This year they won the whole thing. We also didn’t have a single eighth grader run today which makes me that much more excited for next year.”

Trevin Nolting led five OMS Dutchmen earning All-State honors posting an 11th-place time of 12:36.42 helping the orange and black tie their best team finish.

Also earning All-State status unofficially with a top-25 finish for the orange and black were Trace Lange (15th, 12:40.43), Roman Crowe (16th, 12:41.67), Brock Rutledge (17th, 12:54.96) and Robbie Rodriguez (19th, 12:57.49).

Additional OMS Dutchmen harriers on the course in Wheatland included Trace Ridder (31st, 13:23.78), Kyle Korff (36th, 13:37.48), Max Altemeyer (38th, 13:47.71), Anthony Grube (45th, 13:56.19), Bentley Crews (55th, 14:11.27), Garrett Ringeisen (65th, 14:23.22), Braden Kemp (67th, 14:26.94), Noah Anderson (68th, 14:27.74), Liam Kramme (71st, 14:32.86), Ricky Ringeisen (76th, 14:48.30), Michael Anderson (81st, 15:02.42), Jace Duerr (83rd, 15:05.91), Ayden Gutermuth (84th, 15:08.56), Brady Rutledge (89th, 15:21.10), Seth Mitcham (94th, 15:37.83), Dustin Manson (96th, 15:40.02), Brahm Winter (99th, 15:50.33) and Daven Dietrich (107th, 16:13.26).

“It’s difficult to run a personal best on this course, but some were able to,” Ahring said. “Everyone ran really well and we are so proud of them for what they accomplished this season.”
