Randy Duane Schweer, 71, Owensville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, at his residence.

He was a man who never met a stranger who he couldn’t talk with for hours, and he cherished the frequent visits from close friends who stopped by just to visit. Whether at home or in the community, his warmth and conversation were constants in the lives of those who knew him.

Randy was born March 4, 1954, to Kenneth and Naomi (Branson) Schweer in Washington.

A graduate of Owensville High School, Class of 1972, he was a standout three-sport athlete, earning letters in football, baseball and track.

Following graduation, Randy answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army and was a proud member of the Owensville VFW.

Upon returning home from his service, he began a long and dedicated career at the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Fenton. Over the course of over 40 years, Randy worked as a lineman and later as a forklift driver until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Kim Aytes (now Brown) Nov. 29, 1975. Above all his achievements, he was a devoted father, grandpa (“PaPaw”), uncle, cousin and friend. He cherished every minute spent with his daughters and grandkids, always placing family at the center of his world.

His commitment to his community was most evident through his work with the Owensville Fire Department. He began by taking pictures for the department before officially becoming a member in November  of 2008. Throughout his fire service career, Randy accumulated multiple certifications and rose to the rank of captain. His dedication was recognized by his peers when he was named Fireman of the Year in 2011 and earned the distinction of Top Responder (or Second) while on the department. Though a shoulder injury eventually led to his retirement from the department in 2018, Randy’s impact on local fire safety remains a significant part of his legacy.

Outside of work, he was a classic vehicle enthusiast especially for his 1967 step-side Chevy four-wheel drive truck. He spent countless hours working on the vehicle and took great pride in its recognition, including being featured in three different four-wheel drive magazines and countless awards over the years. Under the hood of his truck or in the house you would always find him listening to classic rock music.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Naomi;  and brothers, Kenneth Ray and Richard Schweer.

He is survived by daughters, Amy Knight and husband Darren and Kari Schweer and significant other Brett Holtmeyer, all of Owensville; and his beloved grandchildren, Savannah and Barrett Knight.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

His body was cremated and his cremains will be interred at Countryside Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions suggested for family’s choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville.
