Seven Dutchgirls earn postseason softball honors

Reaching the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 2 championship game this past fall, Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team saw seven players reap the benefits by earning postseason honors from either the coaches of the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) or MSHSAA Class 3, District 2 Tournament.

Dutchgirls named to the Class 3, District 2 All-District 1st Team included senior catcher Claire Oswalt, junior outfielder Cameron Ryerson and freshman outfielder Ryan Miller.

All-District 2nd Team selections among orange and black players included sophomore pitcher Kabren Kelley, junior infielder Hannah Keeney and senior outfielder Trinity Rossi.

Also named to the All-FRC 1st Team were Oswalt, Ryan Miller and Ryerson while the trio of Dallas Miller, Kelley and Keeney were All-FRC 2nd Team selections.

Oswalt led the Dutchgirls in several statistical categories including batting average (.451), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.318), slugging percentage (.746), doubles (12), triples (3), home runs (1), runs batted in (31) and hit-by-pitches (6).

Achieving 10 multi-hit games, Oswalt two singles against Sullivan and Wright City while also recording two doubles in action against Palmyra, Southern Boone and Union.

Her biggest swing came in the first round of districts when she hit a grand slam home run against St. Clair sparking the Dutchgirls to a 15-0 opening-round victory.

Sullivan’s Carli McCreary was also an All-FRC and All-District 1st Team Catcher.

Union’s Ali Thwing and Wright City’s Harper Martin were also All-FRC and All-District 1st Team catchers respectively.

Ryan Miller and Ryerson made up half of the All-FRC 1st Team Outfield and two-thirds of the All-District 1st Team Outfield.

Miller led the team with a .574 on-base percentage, 26 singles, 34 runs scored, 23 walks and 31 stolen bases.

Of her team-leading 31 stolen bases, Miller stole six of them against St. James.

She also had four singles and four runs scored against Dixon.

Patient at the plate, Miller drew a season-high three walks against St. James and St. Pius X (Festus).

Ryerson led the Dutchgirls with 34 hits while also placing second on the team in singles (23), doubles (10), runs scored (32) and stolen bases (23).

Achieving 12 multi-hit games, Ryerson had two hits in action against Palmyra, Westran, Dixon, Hermann, Union, Sullivan, Vienna, Russellville, Rolla, St. Elizabeth and Wright City.

Ryerson also drew four walks and scored four runs against St. James while also stealing three bases against Russellville and St. James.

Pacific’s Ellie Groom and Union’s Millie Koenigsfeld made up the rest of the All-FRC 1st Team Outfield while Blair Oaks’ Belle Boessen was the other All-District 1st Team outfielder.

Kelley pitched a team-leading 68 and a third innings while also going 5-7 with 30 strikeouts. Her season-high in the strikeout department came against St. Clair with five.

At the plate, Kelley was third in runs scored on the team with 19.

Sophomore season-highs for Kelley included three hits against Montgomery County, two doubles against Pacific and two RBIs against Pacific and St. Clair.

Dallas Miller and Keeney made up two of the five All-District 2nd Team Infielders for the Dutchgirls.

Keeney was second on the team with 19 RBIs while also third for the Dutchgirls with eight doubles and 15 walks.

Season-highs for Keeney during her junior season included three RBIs against SPX, three runs scored against St. Clair and four walks against St. James.

Pitching 41 innings, Keeney also recorded 26 strikeouts while recording a team-low 6.65 earned-run average (ERA).

Her season best in strikeouts came against St. Clair with seven.

Dallas Miller was third for the Dutchgirls with 22 singles while also fourth on the team with 26 hits.

Sophomore season-highs for Miller include three hits against Palmyra and South Callaway, two RBIs against Hermann and Cuba in addition to three runs scored against St. James.

Infielders joining the Dutchgirl duo on the All-District 2nd Team include Cuba’s Kaylynn Wilkerson, St. James’ Raegan Witt and Sullivan’s Ella Blanton.

Dutchgirl senior Trinity Rossi was one of five players named to the All-District 2nd Team Outfield.

Rossi was third on the Dutchgirls with a .486 on-base percentage and fourth with 14 walks.

Senior-season highs for Rossi included three hits against Montgomery County, two RBIs against Cuba, Montgomery County and St. Clair, three runs scored against St. Clair and SPX in addition to two walks against Eldon and St. Clair.

Outfielders joining Rossi on the All-District 2nd Team included Blair Oaks’ Rylea Nicholson, Cuba’s Shannon Black, Sullivan’ Kennedi Roach and Wright City’s Haley Elsenrath.

Joining Dallas Miller, Keeney and Kelley on the All-FRC 2nd Team were Kimber Hale (Hermann), Coraline Nobel (Hermann), Harper Priess (Hermann), Alivia Witthaus (Hermann), Makayla Swinford (Pacific), Alyssa Jesionowski (St. Clair), Kirrah Drennan (St. James), Lillian Snelson (St. James), Evelynn Harris (Sullivan), Cali Koppelmann-Blue (Sullivan), Kennedi Roach (Sullivan) and Evvie Poggas (Union).

Blair Oaks wound up winning Class 3, District 2 before dropping a 6-5 quarterfinal decision to Doniphan who went on to place second in the state falling 1-0 to Chillicothe in the Class 3 state championship game.
