Diamond Dutchgirls score two wins

Between regular-season action and the Rolla Softball Tournament, Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team played seven games in a span of seven games.

That began last Monday at OHS Field in a Highway 19 showdown against Cuba’s Lady Wildcats.

Putting up 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning, Owensville went on to a 16-1 victory in three innings over their Highway 19 rivals to the south.

Shae Abernathy earned the complete-game win allowing just one run on two hits and a walk to go with two strikeouts.

Trinity Rossi led Owensville with two hits, two runs batted in (RBI) and a run scored for the Dutchgirl offense.

Collecting a base hit each were Ryan Miller, Cameron Ryerson, Hannah Keeney, Dallas Miller, Kabren Kelley and Abernathy.

Dallas Miller and Abernathy each also drove in a pair of runs along with Rossi.

Ryan Miller scored a team-high three runs while the quintet of Rylee Dare, Ryerson, Keeney, Kelley and Abernathy all each scored a pair of runs.

Halle Thompson also scored a run against Cuba as a courtesy runner.

Thompson was also the winning pitcher for the JV Dutchgirls during their 11-2 victory over Cuba going five innings while allowing two unearned runs on two hits and three walks to go with nine strikeouts.

Scoring twice for the JV Dutchgirls against Cuba were Ari Robson, Lily Raaf, Kinley Troncin and Thompson.

Hadlee Ketcherside also drew a team-leading three walks for the JV Dutchgirls.

Last Tuesday night hosting South Callaway’s Lady Bulldogs, Owensville broke open a 5-2 game in the bottom of the fourth with a six-run frame before going on to post a 12-2 victory in five innings.

Kelley earned the complete-game win allowing two runs on four hits and three walks to go with three strikeouts.

Dallas Miller led the Dutchgirl offense with three hits while the quartet of Ryan Miller, Kelley, Rossi and Dare all had a pair of hits.

Scoring twice for OHS against the Lady Bulldogs were Dallas Miller, Keeney, Kelley and Rossi.

Owensville also posted a 14-5 victory in the JV game over South Callaway behind two hits and three runs scored from Thompson.

Robson also scored three runs to go along with a pair of runs scored from Lainey Moss and Natalie Brennan.

Crossing the plate once for the JV Dutchgirls against South Callaway included Addison Stranghoener, Anieya Bergesch, Jill Blankenship and Troncin.

Earning her second win in two days, Thompson pitched three innings allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk to go with four strikeouts.

Hosting Montgomery County’s Lady Wildcats on senior night, Owensville trailed 6-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before playing four runs in the frame to pull within a pair of runs entering the seventh inning.

Kelley doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the tying run to the plate.

Two strikeouts ended the game with OHS on the short end of a 6-4 final score.

Rossi had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Dutchgirl offense while Kelley also had three hits of her own.

Senior Claire Oswalt drew a pair of walks to go with a hit and a RBI on senior night when she was recognized along with Rossi prior to the JV game which Owensville won 10-4.

Owensville broke open a 3-3 tie with a five-run bottom of the third inning.

Dare led the JV Dutchgirls with a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored against Montgomery County’s JV Lady Wildcats.

Rolla Tournament action over the weekend saw Owensville drop four games against strong teams.

Friday action was moved to OHS Field due to heavy rain that morning in Rolla.

Owensville fell 13-2 against St. Elizabeth and 10-4 against Nixa before Saturday action saw them fall 11-1 against Rockwood Summit and 14-0 against Carthage.

Ending their regular season Monday night hosting Wright City, Owensville will open the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 2 Softball Tournament tonight (Wednesday) at approximately 7 p.m., against St. Clair’s Lady Bulldogs.
