Taking a lead for the first time since the Eldon game on a 37-yard field goal from Gianluca Brucculeri at the 11:13 mark of the second quarter, Dustin Howard’s Owensville Dutchmen had the momentum in another battle of winless teams Friday night at Dutchmen Field against the Pacific Indians.
That momentum proved to be short lived as Pacific took a 7-3 lead just over two minutes after Owensville’s field goal before adding 35 more points leaving the orange and black on the wrong end of a 42-3 final score.
“We just didn’t execute when we needed to tonight,” Howard said. “You have to tip your hat to Pacific as they took the momentum and ran with it.”
In spite of not turning the ball over last Friday night, Owensville was burned by the big play.
Nearing the end of the first half, Brady Watson unleashed a 75-yard punt pinning Pacific all the way back at their 6-yard line.
On the very next play from scrimmage, Indian quarterback Seth Stack connected with Gavin Haddox on a 94-yard touchdown pass giving Pacific a 21-3 halftime lead.
Pacific carried that momentum into the second half scoring three touchdowns in a span of three minutes early in the third quarter.
Liam Rasmussen led the Dutchmen on the ground with 60 yards rushing on 18 carries while Cohen Dare also had three carries for 17 yards rushing in the second half.
Khai Krupp ran the ball five times for 15 yards while also throwing for 34 yards through the air on 5-13 passing.
Chase Crosby led Dutchmen receivers with two catches for 18 yards followed by Watson with one catch for nine yards and Steven Buddemeyer with a pair of receptions for seven yards.
Crosby also led Dutchmen defenders with seven total tackles to go along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Rasmussen and Steven Buddemeyer also added five total tackles.
Aiden Carpenter and Will Coppedge each chipped in four total stops to go along with three total tackles apiece from Bo Buddemeyer, Henry Loeb and Ricky Marquez.
Wyatt Shaw also added a pair of tackles to go along with the Dutchmen quintet of Zach Barch, Jack Tesson, Mason Turner, Connor Wellman and Brendan Kramme with a tackle apiece.
Pacific was led on the ground by Brock McKinney with 142 yards rushing on 13 carries while Stack was 8-11 passing for 245 through the air and three touchdowns.
Haddox led Indian receivers with four catches for 141 yards.
Lucas McKinney led Pacific defenders with 13 total tackles.
Owensville will look for their first win of the season on the road this Friday night in Union while Pacific will step out of Four Rivers Conference (FRC) play taking on Potosi this Friday night.
