HERMANN — Pushing Hermann’s Lady Bearcats to three sets in the consolation championship match of the Hermann Invitational Volleyball Tournament recently, Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirls got another shot at their Gasconade County rivals to the north last Tuesday night in Four Rivers Conference (FRC) action which was also senior night for Hermann.
Nearly taking game one before falling 25-23, too many unforced errors doomed the Dutchgirls before dropping the varsity match to Hermann in three sets 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18.
“We just made too many mistakes tonight,” Ridenhour said. “I feel like we played a lot better against Hermann than we have in recent years, you just can’t make the mistakes against a traditionally good team and expect to come out on top.”
Lily Sample led the Dutchgirls with 10 kills against the Lady Bearcats while Rachel Koepke and Mya Vandegriffe each added five kills.
Sample also served up a team-leading three aces while Jenna Hoffman served up the other one for Owensville at Hermann.
Vandegriffe showed the way for OHS in the block department with three while Riley Grube and Koepke added two of their own.
Clara Julius led the orange and black with 13 digs while Sample also reached double digits with 11 digs.
Clarice Krupp and Hoffman each added seven digs of their own.
Freshman Clara Brune led OHS with 14 assists to go along with seven dimes from Ava Schulte.
Owensville denied a Hermann sweep of all three matches by winning the JV match in two sets 25-11 and 25-18.
OHS dropped the freshman contest in three sets by scores of 25-13, 15-25 and 15-9.
Last Thursday at home against Union, Owensville won both the freshman (25-22, 25-23) and JV (25-11, 25-14) matches in two sets before dropping varsity action in four sets by scores of 25-23, 10-25, 25-21 and 25-20.
Statistics from the Union match were not available at press time.
Closing their regular season tomorrow (Thursday) night at New Haven, Owensville will open play in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 9 Volleyball Tournament at Cuba High School on Tuesday, Oct. 21 against St. James’ Lady Tigers at approximately 6:30 p.m.
